A 17-year old boy from the Nkwanta South Municipality in the Oti Region precisely from the Tukpene Community has been banished from the community for stealing according to his father.
The boy is pupil at the Tukpene Municipal Assembly Basic School school. The father, Mr Prosper Amoah who spoke to the Ghana News Agency said his son who is a primary six pupil was banished from the community after he was allegedly caught breaking into someone’s room.
The boy was taken to a stream and was ceremoniously banished, forced to cross the stream to the other and was forbidden never to return to the community.
The mother of the boy, Mrs Afuah Amoah said amidst tears that, “They threatened to banish us also if we tried to follow him. I am very worried about the whereabouts of my son.” She begged for authorities to come to their aid. The Chief of the community restrained people from going after the boy.
The Chief denied knowledge of the allegations. In his own words, he said “nothing of the sort occurred in my area.” Paramount Chief Nana Poku Antoh III denied that he was ever involved in any banishment proceedings in Tukpene.
