A man is arrested on suspicion of murder after being stabbed twice in Wigan. One woman was killed and another seriously injured. 32-year-old Melissa Belsho’s mother, who was killed in the attack, was described as “caring and beautiful” by her friends and family who were destroyed yesternight.
The police were called to the property on Upholland Road just before 4:10 p.m.
Police found Belshaw with “catastrophic” injuries, but despite paramedic efforts, he was soon pronounced dead.
A 40-year-old man believed to have tried to intervene was in critical condition after being stabbed in hospital.
Ms. stepmother Belshaw, Lisa Belshaw, paid homage to a child’s mother. She said the beautician would “do everything for her teenage daughter”.
“That’s amazing,” said Ms. Belshaw to the Manchester Evening. “It was dropped sadly.” I received a call saying that a man had entered his house and stabbed him. I didn’t know he was dead until I read it on Facebook.
A close friend, Leanne Fairhurst, described Ms. Belshaw as “considerate and extraordinary”.
“He has a kind heart,” he added. “He was very friendly and he always smiled and he liked the good weather. When we went to parties, Melissa always tried to make everyone laugh.
Fairhurst said he was still surprised by the news of his friend’s death. He added: “Someone told me what happened and I didn’t believe it, so I called him but the phone was turned off.
“I just cried when I found out. I have lost a good friend and I will miss him so much.”
A scene is taking place on Upholland Road during the investigation.
An eyewitness, who did not want to be named, said he saw two men fighting near a convenience store near the intersection with Crank Road.
He added: “They both fell in the middle of the road. I had to turn them over.
The man above seemed to be trying to stab a man on the floor with a large knife. When I passed the police I was already there.
Detective Inspector Jamie Daniels said: “After this truly tragic event, our thoughts first went to her relatives.
“We will give them full support and do everything we can to give them appropriate answers.
“Our thoughts remain on the man who is currently in the hospital and is being treated.
“Our specially trained officers will continue to support their families in this difficult time.
“It is clear that this investigation is still in its initial stages and we are working to follow every direction of research.
“We understand that this news may be of concern to the local community, but I want to emphasize that we currently believe that this is an isolated case.
“There will be a greater police presence in the region and I would encourage anyone who has concerns to contact the staff there to offer support and assistance.
“I also want to ask everyone with information to contact us, because even the smallest details can significantly advance our investigation.”
The accident occurred during the investigation, police said.
