Ghana’s health minister, Kwaku Agyeman Manu, is in stable condition after being infected with the novel coronavirus, President Nana Akufo-Addo said Sunday.

“We hope our hard-working Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyeman Manu, will recover early from the virus he received while on duty,” Akufo-Addo said during his 11th address to the nation on coronavirus update.

It was rumoured that the Minister has contracted the virus but UTV ace journalist Afia Pokua disclosed on Facebook that the minster was only resting at the University of Ghana Medical Centre.

But the President has assured the nation that the minister is now in a stable condition after contracting the virus.

He also confirmed that the Mayor of Sekondi-Takoradi who died on Friday was killed by the virus.

Ghana has registered 11,964 positive cases of the coronavirus, one of the highest in the region, but has also conducted one of the highest tests on the continent at 254,311, and one of the lowest deaths from the virus.

With 54 deaths reported so far in Ghana, the ratio of deaths to positive cases is 0.4%, compared with a global average of 5.5% and an African average of 2.6%, Akufo-Addo said.
