The Gunners are showing interest in Chelsea midfielder Jorginho as Arteta still seeks midfield reinforcement.
Arsenal had identified Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey and Lyon’s Houssem Aouar as their main transfer target for the summer but both deals have not fallen through yet.
Jorginho however in recent days according to Sky Sports reports has emerged as Mikel Arteta’s target. Since his days at Manchester City, the Arsenal boss was part of Pep Guardiola’s set-up when they wanted to sign the Italian from Napoli in 2018.
But Jorginho instead followed his former manager at Napoli Maurizio Sarri to the Stamford Bridge instead and remains part of Frank Lampard’s midfield.
Even though the 28-year-old has started both Premier League games for Chelsea this season, he is faced with a tough competition for places in midfield from N’golo Kante, Matteo Kovacic and Billy Gilmour all specializing in deep lying roles too.
Arsenal’s current midfield options looks less stronger than their London rivals with the likes of Lucas Torierra, Matteo Guendouzi and Mesut Ozil falling out of favour under Mikel Arteta.
Jorginho joined Chelsea from Napoli in the summer of 2018 for £50m plus an additional £7m in add ons. He has since made 100 appearances and scored 10 goals and also the side’s designated penalty taker.
