National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency believes he will take the seat from the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) with 54% of the vote.
In an interview with Citi Tv, John Dumelo rejected the claims that the seat is a safe zone for the NPP.
Despite the fact that the NPP has won the seat since the 2000 elections, Dumelo said that his party had been closing the voting gap significantly for years, adding that his constituency is not areas like Bantama, Ejisu and Mampong which have been described as a traditional seat of the NPP
“I disagree with those who claim that Ayawaso West Wuogon has traditionally been NPP. We won in 1992 and 1996, and we have also come close winning it in recent years especially in 2012. We also came close in 2004 and 2008.
“This is not like the Bantama, Mampong or Ejisu seats that we know are traditionally NPP. Ayawaso West Wuogon is a seat we are are going win. I will not win, NDC will win,” he said.
When asked about the percentage of the margin he wanted to win, Mr. Dumelo answered and said: “by 54%”.
He claimed that the progress of the constituency has retrogressed and therefore the call for a leader who has the constituency at not only during elections.”
He further denied any money sharing activity in his constituency in his bid to win the seat.
He alleged that the course has been supported by friends and sympathisers who also share in his vision.
