Barcelona have not given up the pursuit for Lyon star Memphis Depay in January but would have to sell Martin Brathwaite and Ousmane Dembele to fund the deal, according to emerging reports.

Depay was close to making a switch to the Camp Nou on deadline day earlier this long but Barcelona failed to push the deal through at the eleventh hour failing to offload Dembele who is close to earning £200,000 per week salary.

Olympic Lyon reduced the asking price for their captain to just £23 million but Barcelona who are under financial crisis due to the coronavirus pandemic – posting a loss of £88 million – couldn’t afford afford him.

Spanish outlet Sport has reported that Barcelona who are short on finances at the moment are looking forward to generating money from the sale of £136m flop Dembele and out of favour striker Braithwaite.

Barcelona are looking at offloading Dembele to raise funds for the move for Depay

On the front page of the papers states that Barcelona have already “already agreed” to sign Memphis Depay in January but are waiting for departures to reduce their wage bill.

The papers also claims Barcelona are working to find solutions to resolve Dembele’s future and also testing the market to put Braithwaite.

The club are also looking at offloading Martin Braithwaite to reduce their wage bill

Dembele who has not lived up to expectations after joining Barcelona in 2017 from Dortmund was set to join Manchester United at the end of the transfer window but refused the opportunity making manager Ronald Koeman furious after scuppering their hopes of signing Depay.
