Black Stars midfielder Bernard Mensah has tested positive for Covid-19 shortly after returning to his club from international duty with the national team.
The news was confirmed by his club Besiktas on Wednesday after he rejoined the team from the Black Stars camp.
“The routine Covid-19 PCR test applied by our club on the return of our football player Bernard Mensah of the Ghana national team camp where he was invited, was positive.
“Bernard Mensah’s follow-up and treatment process was initiated in accordance with the relevant protocols,” a club statement read.
Bernard posted on his Twitter account following the announcement that: “Hello everyone. I am fine, I feel good. Don’t worry. Thanks for your support.”
The midfielder was handed his first call-up to the national team by C.K Akonnor for the international friendly games against Mali and Qatar in Turkey.
He featured in the 3-0 lose to Mali but he was however an unused substitute in the 5-1 thrashing of Asian Champions Qatar.
Four players of the Eagles were confirmed to have tested positive ahead of the game against Mali.
Also, a management member of the Black Stars, Jones Abu Alhassan is said to be self-isolating in Turkey after he tested positive for Coronavirus.
Bernard Mensah joined the Turkish side Besiktas on loan from fellow Super Lig side Kayserispor and has settled well at the club becoming an important player who has featured in all four of their league matches scoring one goal.
