The Mayor of the Brazilian city, Manaus, Arthur Virgilio Neto has descended heavily on the Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro describing his response to the COVID-19 outbreak in Brazil as shambolic.

The mayor whose city is hardly hit by the virus branded the President as “co-responsible” for the South American country’s surge in COVID-19 related deaths.

Neto told CNN that President Bolsonaro wants to be a dictator but he is “too stupid”. The Mayor of Manaus, a city of 2 million people further called on the President to either resign or “shut up.”

Manaus has recorded 1,182 COVID-19 related deaths in the country with the most infections aside the United States forcing Neto to dug mass graves to bury the bodies. In a video that surfaced last week of an April cabinet meeting, the President called the Mayor “a piece of s***” for digging mass graves to bury bodies.

President Bolsonaro just like his counterpart Donald Trump, has been trying to downplay the seriousness of the virus. He prioritized building of the economy over the health of Brazilians as he keeps appearing at crowded public places without wearing a mask.

The populist leader keeps appearing at anti-lockdown rallies on almost a weekly basis. The country has recorded more than 362,000 cases with more than 22,000 deaths, only second to the US globally as South America turns out to be the latest epicenter of the Coronavirus pandemic.

“I don’t know how to explain how a man of such low qualifications became to be president of a country of 210 million,” Neto said.
