The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo has gone into self-isolation after one of his close staff tested positive for COVID-19.

A letter released by the Ministry of Information and signed by the Minister of Information, Honorable Kojo Oppong Nkrumah indicates that the President’s self-isolation period starts from today July 4.

The letter said that at least one person in the close circle of the President has tested positive and that has warranted the move by doctors to make the President go into self-isolation as a precautionary measure.

The President is expected to work from the Presidential Villa as a result of the isolation starting from tomorrow.

Oppong Nkrumah explains in the letter, that as at today, the President has tested negative to the virus but is only isolating due to doctor’s advice and not because he is sick.

“On the advice of doctors, the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo, is from today, July 4, 2020 is taking a fourteen (14) day precautionary self-isolation measure in compliance with COVID-19 protocols,” part of the minister’s letter read.

A couple of big men in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have tested positive for the virus including former deputy minister of trade, Mr Carlos Ahenkorah who has resigned after going viral for deliberately going out of isolation while he had the virus.
