Cauliflower belongs to the family of cabbages. It is the most digestible cabbage. The edible portion of cauliflower develops before the flower it fully flowers. The formation comes about as a result of thousands of tiny buds. Cauliflowers can be seen in different colours. Cauliflower could be green like Romanesquedue because of chlorophyll. It could be purple-like which is caused by anthocyanin content.

It contains little doses of carbohydrate and protein with no fat. It also contains pro vitamin A(beta-carotene), vitamins B, C and rich amount in vitamin C. It is rich in potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, and iron but low amount of sodium.

Cauliflower is rich in trace elements like chromium, zinc, manganese, copper, and selenium.

Some of the medicinal benefits of cauliflower:

  1. cardiovascular disorder. It should be included in the diets of those in any form of heart disease, hypertension, or arteriosclerosis since it contains low amounts of sodium, extremely low-fat content and very rich in potassium.
  2. Kidney disorders- It helps to excrete excess water retained in the tissues(edema) and waste materials such as urea. It is good for those suffering from renal failure, arthritis, gout, edema related cases, and kidney stones.
  3. Cancer. Cauliflower is anti-carcinogenic. It is good for cancer patients.
  4. Obesity and diabetes. Cauliflower is good for those who want to lose weight and diabetics due to its low carbohydrate and fat content.
