Chelsea are reportedly ready to offer £72m flop goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga on loan as they sign a new goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.
Frank Lampard made signing a new goalkeeper an important priority for the summer and finally the Blues successfully completed a £22m deal on Thursday for Edouard Mendy.
Kepa has been enduring awful time in the post at Chelsea over the past 18 months, making a number of high profile errors and was once again in the spotlight when his mistake led to Sadio Mane scoring in their defeat against Liverpool last weekend.
According to The Sun, Frank Lampard has lost patience in the Spaniard and has given clearance that he could be sent on loan even though Chelsea have not actually decided on the future of Kepa yet.
Kepa has struggled to live up to his world record £72m transfer fee Chelsea paid to sign in 2018 from Athletic Bilbao.
Even though still used as Chelsea’s No.1 goalkeeper since the beginning of the season, the 25-year-old has alread come under constant criticism having been at fault for the goal in their 3-1 win over Brighton in their opening day fixture and making another mistake against Liverpool.
Chelsea legend Petr Cech was a huge influence in bringing Edouard Mendy to the club playing a key role im identifying the 28-year-old.
Speaking after signing a five-year-deal with Chelsea, Mendy said: “I’m so excited to be joining Chelsea. It’s a dream for me to be part of this exciting squad. I can’t wait to get started.”
Mendy’s arrival means Kepa’s no.1 spot is no longer a guarantee and the club is ready to listen to loan offers for the 25-year-old Spaniard.
