The coronavirus is permeating all the regions in Ghana and the Western region is not an exception. It has been confirmed that Western has had an additional 8 new cases of COVID-19.

Two cases were confirmed from Axim Hospital at Ezema East District. 1 case was confirmed at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital and  1 other case at Takoradi Hospital. 4 samples were taken by the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan team. All six new confirmed cases are asymptomatic. The total confirmed cases of coronavirus in the Western Region now stands at 9.

This means that contact tracing of all the news cases including the already existing cases are going to be embarked upon as soon as practicable. It is expected that the contact tracing starts today. In contact tracing, those who display symptoms will be quarantined either self or facility-based. Specimen samples will be sent to Noguchi to ascertain the validity of the suspicion by the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Team.

Inevitably, since the Western Region has 6 new cases it means that more cases will be recorded because all of these six patients had contacts with other people and this virus has exponential effects. Further, the contact tracing that will be done by the Western Region Management Team will undoubtedly increase the figure.

Those in the Western region are humbly advised to also in earnest observe the COVID-19 protocols; social distancing, do not go out without noise mask, use hand sanitizers regularly, avoid shaking hands and bodily contacts with others and wash your hands regularly with soap under running water. Everybody in the Western region is at risk and so observe the recommendations postulated by the World Health Organisation and Ghana Health Service to reduce the risk.

Let us not be petrified and alarmed and am sure this pandemic will be a thing of the past provided we actively observe COVID-19 preventive measures.
