In the President nations’ address in the 5th day of April 2020, he reiterated the fact that coronavirus and the related the lockdown have affected the local businesses, especially Small and Medium Enterprises. We see the hospitality industry at the verge of collapse, many private organizations have stopped operations as a result of the lockdown. The lockdown is fully operational in parts of Accra, Ashanti regions and Kasoa and partial in all parts of the country.

He noted that the government through the finance ministry has come out with Coronavirus Alleviation Programme aimed at;

  1. to protect the household and livelihood
  2. to protect Small and Medium Enterprise
  3. minimize job losses
  4. source additional funding to promote industries

The Coronavirus Alleviation Programme seeks to give loans up to GHS6 million micro and medium enterprises with added 1 year Memorium and 2 years interval for repayment.

This would at the end of the day ensure domestic production and consumption and promote exports as well.

Ken Ofori Atta, Minister for Finance

The Coronavirus Alleviation Programme is about to be submitted to parliament for approval by the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori Atta.
