The Uk government has in a recent agreement signed a deal for 90 million doses of coronavirus drugs that are presumed to be good for the treatment of the deadly coronavirus.
Business Secretary Alok Sharma today (Monday 20 July) made announced that the Government has agreed to significant partnerships with leading pharmaceutical and vaccine companies BioNTech/Pfizer and Valneva that are developing innovative new vaccines to protect people against Covid-19.
The Government has also secured access to treatments containing COVID-19-neutralising antibodies from AstraZeneca to protect those who cannot receive vaccines such as cancer and immunocompromised patients.
The UK government now secured access to vaccines that use three completely different approaches:
- 100m doses of the Oxford vaccine made from a genetically engineered virus
- 30 million doses of the BioNtech/Pfizer vaccine, which injects part of the coronavirus’ genetic code
- 60 million doses of the Valneva, which uses an inactive version of the coronavirus
