Trials involving 1,077 people done by the Oxford university showed the injection led to making antibodies and T-cells that can fight coronavirus in their bodies.

The results published in The Lancet medical journal are preliminary, with the effect of the vaccine measured by the number of antibodies and T-cells it generates in the blood of the volunteers – not in any response to the virus itself.

The vaccine called ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 – is being developed at unprecedented speed and is said to be made from a genetically engineered virus that causes the common cold in chimpanzees.

Professor Andrew Pollard, the study’s lead author on the coronavirus trail stated that the vaccine was a means to attaining the drug that could fight the virus.”The results were a really important milestone on the path to a vaccine,” he stated.
