As of today, 6th May 2020, 9 new cases of coronavirus have been received based on the on-going contact tracing according to the Western Regional Minister and MP for Takoradi Constituency, Hon. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah.
In the interview Western Regional Minister granted, based on contact tracing of the infected people in the Western Region, the Disease and Surveillance Department of the Ghana Health Service took over 440 samples to Accra for COVID-19 testing, out of that over 110 results are in and 9 came positive. The minister explained also that almost all the cases are imported. The people who are COVID-19 positive in the western region some came from Belgium, USA, China, UK, and Obuasi to the Western Region and only two patients did not import.
The Western Regional Minister also explained that Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis had 4 cases, Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly 2, Axim 2, and Shama 1. 80% of the cases generally are asymptomatic. This means the patients do not show signs of COVID-19 but actually have the disease.
The Western Regional Minister says the wearing of a nose mask, social distancing, and washing of hand with soap under running water is compulsory and that enforcement will be the order of the day highlighting that everybody must observe or you will have yourself to be blamed. He, however, commended the market women for observing social distancing but ask for continual precautionary measures to be adhered to.
He charged shop owners and business centers not to allow anybody without a nose mask to enter, but rather ask them to wear first.
