According to the Situational Report SITREP NO. 18 of the Western North dated 5th May 2020, the region now has 45 new confirmed cases of coronavirus based on some contact tracing results received. This means that a total of 49 cases are recorded in the Western North.

A total of 158 samples were sent to KCCR and 107 results have been received and 49 came positive. The average number of contact testing positive per case is 3, confirmed cases from routine surveillance 1, however, no health worker is infected. 51 results are pending. So far the 49 positive cases of coronavirus came specifically from Bibiani, Ahwiaso, and Bekwai. Contact tracing for additional 45 new cases is ongoing and so samples will be sent to KCCR and Western Regional References this week. The report also made mention of the fact that active Contact Tracing of all the Primary contacts ongoing.

The recommendations for all to follow to reduce the spread and fight the pandemic are;

  1. wear the facemask always, change when damp
  2. maintain two metres or more between yourself and others
  3. wash your hands frequently with soap under running water or use alcohol-based hand rub, especially after direct contact with ill people or their environment
  4. Avoid unprotected contact with farm or wild animals
  5. When coughing or sneezing cover mouth and nose with an elbow or disposable tissue, throw away tissue in a covered bin and wash hands right away with soap under running water
  6. Avoid touching your mouth, nose and eyes to limit the spread of infection
  7. observe self-quarantine rules to protect everyone
