Management at the Accra Technical University said that one person in the school has tested positive for Covid-19. This comes less than two weeks after tertiary institutions were reopened to final years.
The victim, a National Service Personnel in the academic department, was confirmed positive after visiting a medical facility with symptoms such as fever, headache and runny nose.
In a statement signed by the director of public relations, management said contact had been followed up with six people who are currently isolating themselves.
“The person is currently in isolation in a medical facility and responding well to treatment. Six colleagues who made contact with confirmed Covid-19 patient were counselled, reassured and their samples taken for laboratory tests.
“The contact was asked to isolate themselves while waiting for the results. However, the university team and the Safety and Health Committee remain in contact with patients and contacts.”
According to the statement, measures have been introduced to provide medical and psychological support to anyone who has made contact with victims.
The statement also urges students and staff to strictly comply with all the mandatory Covid-19 protocols such as wearing a face mask, social distance and regular handwashing with soap under running water.
