Due to the devasting nature of the coronavirus, President Akufo Addo announced on Friday, 27th March 2020 that trust fund is instituted to raise funds to support COVID-19 patients and the vulnerable and other related needs.
The total confirmed cases as at 30th March 2020 by Ghana health Service is 152. The figures keep increasing at an alarming rate. In Africa as at now 5555 cases confirmed, 301 recovered and 170 dead.
To mitigate the spread of the disease the President after announcing the need for Trust Fund included that he is donating 3 months of his salaries into the fund. The Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in recently confirmed that he has also donated 3 months of his salaries into the fund. Other organizations and well-meaning Ghanaians have donated to Ghana Health Service to help fight the outbreak of coronavirus.
A lot of people have lost their capital and businesses as a result of this epidemic. President Akufo Addo earlier announced 100 million dollars dedicated to COVID-19 and its related matters of which Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta has confirmed it has landed at his ministry.
Ghanaians are hopeful the lockdown and the measures put in place will help. However, individual Ghanaians are the best protectors by following WHO measures of preventing the infection of COVID-19 which includes social distancing, washing hands with running water, etc.
