The driver of the District Chief Executive of the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region and two other people have been shot dead in an attack police suspect to be a coordinated armed robbery attack.
A group of armed men who stormed the Manso Dadease community, near Datano shot their victims at different locations. They were found lying in a pool of blood at the crime scenes.
The armed robbers stormed the community, blocked the road leading to the town and started shooting at anyone in sight at 7 pm on Monday.
The driver of the DCE, known as Osei was reportedly returning from a COVID-19 sensitization tour with the District Health Director. The robbers shot through the windscreen of the car killing him on the spot. He was driving in the DCE’s official car which he (DCE) released for the sensitization.
The assailants also shot and killed a 69-year-old man who was in his shop and another man who was on a motorbike.
The police responded to the attack after they received distress calls from some residents but the attackers fled the scene before they arrived. The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the St. Martin Hospital at Manso Agroyesum.
