Amidst a tense atmosphere in Bantama, the Deputy Chief of Staff Francis Asenso-Boakye defeated the incumbent Member of Parliament, Okyem Aboagye to represent Bantama in the upcoming December elections.
Provisional results show that the political assistant to the President as well as TESCON founding member won 455 votes leaving the incumbent with 122.
Bantama which has been described as the World Bank of the New Patriotic Party was one of the fiercely contested constituency in this year’s primaries.
Tensions rose earlier in the day when one of the agents of the incumbent Member of Parliament attempted to prevent a man he claims is a security operative with the Bureau of National Investigations.
The elections have been marred with allegations of vote buying and intimidation as stacks of money were paid to delegates to thwart voting decisions from one way or another.
