President Nana Akufo-Addo has announced the massive infrastructural development to be witnessed at the Western Regional hospital, the Effia Nkwanta Hospital.
During the president’s 8th address to the nation on measures taken against the spread of coronavirus, he highlighted on some of the challenges facing the health sector in the country and measures employed to resolve those challenges.
He stated that the virus has exposed the unequal distribution of healthcare facilities in the country since most governments in the past focused on the infrastructure on Accra.
As part of measures to ensure equitable distribution of healthcare facilities across the country, the president announced the construction of 88 district hospitals in districts lacking the facilities.
While plans have been put in place for the construction of six regional hospitals for the new regions created, Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital will undergo a rehabilitation exercise according to the president.
“We have also put in place plans for the construction of six new regional hospitals in the six new regions, and the rehabilitation of the EffiaNkwanta Hospital, in Sekondi, which is the regional hospital of the Western Region,” he stated.
The hospital is undoubtedly the most deprived regional hospital in the country despite the reputation of the region and the resources milked by the nation from the region.
The people in the region have on countless occasions called on previous governments to turn their attention to the poor state of the hospital.
