A former Minneapolis police officer was arrested and charged with murder after an unarmed black man died in custody.
Derek Chauvin, who is white, appeared on Monday kneeling on the neck of 46-year-old George Floyd. He and three other officers were released.
The days of looting and arson in Minnesota has now become a nationwide protest.
This case sparked outrage in the United States for the murder of black American by white police officers.
Hennepin County Prosecutor, Mike Freeman said Chauvin was charged with third and second-degree murder.
He said he expects “charges” for the other three officers, but did not give further details.
Mr. Freeman said his office “sued the case as soon as the evidence was given to us.”
“That is the fastest thing we have ever done to blame a police officer,” he said.
According to the lawsuit, Chauvin acted with “corrupt mind without regards for human life.”
