George Floyd was laid to rest today in a private funeral ceremony attended by Jamie Foxx, Congressman Al Green, NFL players JJ Watt and other prominent personalities at the Fountain of Praise Church at 11 am.

He was killed last week at the hands of police in Minneapolis. Ex-Minneapolis police officer knelt on Floyd’s neck for close to 9 minutes while he was being arrested on the suspicion for forgery.

His body will be horse drawn in a carriage and buried next to his mother at the Houston Memorial Gardens in Pearland.

500 guests were invited to the funeral including the families of Ahmaud Arbery, Eric Garner and Botham Jean to attend the funeral ceremony on Tuesday.

Floyd’s family attended the ceremony all dressed in white with Rev. Al Sharpton. The service began with gospel music. In his eulogy, Rev. Sharpton chided racists for putting the “knees” on the necks of black people and making them suffer.

George Floyd’s death has sparkled widespread protests across the world as people called for justice for his family. Protesters called on governments for police reforms to be instituted.

The four officers involved in his killing have been arrested and charged. Derek Chauvin was charged for 3rd degree murder and his charge was later upgraded to 2nd degree murder.
