On the 17th nation address on measures taken to arrest coronavirus by President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo partly said that the Ghana premier league will resume on the 30th October 2020 since it was stopped by the Ghana Football Association due to COVID-19 earlier.
According to President Akufo Addo, the Ghana Premier League, and the Division One Football League must be started when players are tested regularly to ensure safety and reduce the spread of the virus. Additionally, spectators will not be allowed at training grounds, 25% of the capacity at the various stadia will be allowed for spectators to encourage social distancing including wearing of facemasks and observance of all the other COVID-19 protocols.
“With respect to football, after due consultations with the Ghana Football Association, it has been decided that the Ghana Premier League and the Division One Football League will restart on Friday, 30th October, with a full regime of testing of the players, technical and management staff. No spectators will be allowed at the training centers, and, when actual competition resumes, seating at all stadia will be limited to twenty-five percent (25%) capacity to ensure social distancing. Wearing of masks by spectators at stadia will be mandatory”, President Akufo Addo said.
