Ghana’s Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, was elected to the Executive Board of the World Health Organization (WHO). The 34-member council consists of members who have technical qualifications elected for three-year terms.

The Board has the task of implementing the decisions and guidelines of the Health Assembly, advising and generally facilitating the work of the Assembly.

WHO Director-General Dr. Tredos Adhanom Gebreyes congratulates Dr. Harsh Vardhan who became the new chairman, the vice-chairs, and all the members of the Executive board and promised to work with them.

The annual Board of Directors meeting takes place in January when members adopt the agenda and resolution of the World Health Assembly which is examined by the Health Assembly. The second shorter meeting will take place in May after the health meeting.
