The blood circulation through the arteries must be within a certain level of pressure below or above it brings about hypertension. When the rate at which the heart beats or pumps blood is too high, then hypertension occurs. Hypertension occurs when the blood pressure exceeds 140 mm Hg and/or when the blood pressure exceeds 90mm Hg. The maximum blood pressure is 140mm Hg which is medically called Systolic. The minimum blood pressure should not exceed 90mm Hg which is referred to as diastolic. Blood pressure should not exceed 140/90 mm Hg. Anything more than that is high blood pressure.

What makes hypertension dangerous is that there are no specific symptoms. It deteriorates the arteries and various organs. However, smoking is the chief cause of high blood pressure. This is because cigarettes contain nicotine which is a vasoconstrictor (contracts the arteries).

The consumption of fruits and vegetables can put one blood pressure within a healthy state.

Fruits like guava, grapefruit, pear, etc. are recommendable by experts.

Foods like diuretic foods, fish oil, and foods that contain potassium, calcium, magnesium, fiber, etc.

It is advisable to reduce the risk of hypertension by either reducing or eliminating the consumption of salt, sodium, ham, sausages, meat, proteins, alcoholic beverages, saturated fat, coffee, stimulant beverage, pepper, matured cheeses, eggs, etc.

Hypertension can lead to Stroke.

Major organs in the body will not get a supply of blood thereby causing major organs to fail such as heart failure, diabetics, kidney failure, etc.

It leads to convulsion (eclampsia) in pregnancy.
