The Minister of Health, Mr. Kwaku Agyemang Manu has debunked claims by the media that he has tested positive for COVID-19. The Minister who has been at the battlefront of Ghana’s COVID-19 fight was reported to be sick from the virus.
Citi TV’s Umaru Sanda broke the news earlier today that the minister tested positive for the virus and was receiving treatment at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC).
According to Afia Pokuaa, a journalist with UTV popularly known as Vim Lady, the minister said he is just resting at the hospital and taking his diabetes medications. The journalist who claimed the minister confirmed the news to her in a phone call disclosed the news on Facebook.
“Spoke to the minister of health. He says he’s fine and doesn’t have COVID but only needed rest and his usual medication,” Afia Pokuaa wrote on her Facebook page.
The minister is a diabetic patient who is on medication. The news of him contracting the virus has received mixed reactions on social media with a cross-section of the public sympathizing with him while others chastised him for his “poor” management of the pandemic.
The Minister was recently appointed to serve on the Board of the World Health Organization (WHO), a feat government attributed to his exceptional management of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
