Immigration officials have arrested a 42-year old woman in Asikuma, Oti Region. The woman who made a fake baby bump out of compressed dried leaves suspected to be Marijuana or Indian hemp was arrested on Sunday.
The woman, Mavis Adubea hails from Nkonya in the Oti Region but she carries out her trade in Takoradi. Officials say Mavis had been profiled for years after she was suspected to be dealing in narcotics.
Mavis Adubea arrived in Asikuma Inland Check point and portrayed herself as a pregnant woman on Sunday evening exactly 8:00 pm. Immigration officials suspected that her pregnancy was faked and they proceeded to do a body search on her. The officials realised that the fake baby bump was a concealment of three slabs of a substance they suspected to be Indian hemp or ‘wee’.
Mavis was arrested while traveling to Accra from Kpando. She was handed over to Ho police for further investigation and interrogation. She will possibly be prosecuted according to the Police.
Clava Nantuo, the Deputy Commissioner of Immigration in the Volta Region commended his officers for doing a good job. He described them as ‘patriotic’ and ready to go the extra mile to bring criminals to justice.
