President Donald Trump’s decision to cut US funding to the World Health Organization (WHO) has faced a widespread backlash from former statesmen and leaders across the world. Former President Jimmy Carter, Hillary Clinton, Bill Gates and other prominent personalities have registered their displeasure with the move.
The former President of the Republic of Ghana also wades in on the decision. The former President, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama accused the Trump-led US of ceding leadership. He called the decision to cut off WHO funding a “tragic mistake”.
“The US continues to cede world leadership… It is a tragic mistake to withhold funding to WHO in the midst of this dreadful #COVID19 pandemic,” he wrote on Twitter.
Bill Gates wrote on Twitter that the President’s decision is “as dangerous as it sounds”. Hillary Clinton and the Democratic party have also jumped to the defense of the health management body. Hillary said the President had no authority to cut funding to the WHO.
President Trump announced at a press briefing on Wednesday that his administration is cutting funding to the WHO after previously accusing the organization of misleading them.
