Joint military and forestry taskforce have shot a truck driver at the buttock in Asante Akyem Agogo. The incident occurred as a result of the driver conveying illegal logs from ‘Kowereso’, a suburb of Agogo.

Narrating the incident to Joint Military and forestry task force shoots truck driver in Agogo. Mr. Nkrumah, the Technical Officer of Forestry Commission in Asante Akyem Agogo indicated that the victim was apprehended at ‘Kowereso’ by the joint taskforce for carrying illegal logs. He was then questioned about the ownership of the logs and he informed them that the logs belonged to one Mr. Kwabena Tawiah popularly called “Abrofo” in Agogo. Upon several calls made to the said owner of the logs by the driver, he decided to meet the taskforce together with the truck driver on their way to Agogo, they had an extensive dialogue on the issue and continued their journey to Agogo. Upon reaching Agogo, the driver parked the vehicle and disappeared without the knowledge of the taskforce. According to the Technical Officer, the driver returned back to where he parked and started performing some chants. The taskforce became furious and decided to arrest him but he took to his heels. It was then that one of the military officers gave a warning shot. Mr. Nkrumah, the technical officer confirmed the gun shot and stated categorically that it was just a warning shot and that couldn’t have been the shot that hit the victim because the military man only shot into the air.
John Tabi, the truck driver also indicated that he did not run to anywhere but he was shot by the military officer after he parked his truck along the roadside to ease when they arrived at Agogo.

Supt. Kingsley Owusu Bempah, the Police Commander in Agogo confirmed the shooting incident and an ongoing investigation into the matter. He assured everyone that perpetrators of this heinous crime shall be apprehended and brought to book no matter whom they are. He showed his displeasure about the inability of the Technical Officer for Forestry Commission Mr. Nkrumah, to cooperate in the ongoing investigation.
Meanwhile, the Medical Officer handling the patient at Agogo Presbyterian Hospital has confirmed the gun shot and indicated that bullet has been found in the body of the victim which is yet to be removed.
The victim is currently stable and receiving treatment at Agogo Hospital.
