The Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong has disclosed the source of his wealth after years of controversies surrounding how the legislature made his millions.
Many people including the opposition party NDC believe the MP had made his wealth through the smuggling of cocaine.
According to him, the source of his wealth, which many people struggle to fathom, was the result of his active work in the 1980s processing undocumented amnesty documents in the United States.
“In 1989, US President Ronald Reagan introduced the amnesty program and I was fortunate enough to work with a lawyer. He was called Kwadwo Afram Asiedu. He called me and I started working with him. That was my cocaine money. There I made a lot of money.
“The lawyer and I worked on about 2,500 applications and each paid $2,500. I worked on the documentation while my boss will do the submission to the Immigration Service. From the $2,500, my boss was entitled to $700 and I will pocket the rest out of which I will use some for the documentation.”
The outspoken MP disclosed that together with his personal savings, he made over $1 million at the end of the program.
He further disclosed that a second chance of his money was through the American Lottery.
“For a second chance for my money was through the American lottery. Many Ghanaians have won the lottery in the US and did not know how to process it. So I returned to America and this time I met another boss, Lawyer Fofie.
“I discussed with him my connections in Ghana and he was very interested especially with the money. The price was $500, so I bought 96 applications for $48,000 and brought it to Ghana.”
Kennedy Agyapong who is into Real Estate, Food Processing, Farming, Media and Hospitality has had many people confused his source of wealth for cocaine.
“It very painful if people don’t know the source of your wealth but mistake it for cocaine.”
