The Editor In Chief of the New Crusading Guide Newpsaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako Jnr has bitten back at the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) on claims that the cancellation of the teachers and nurses trainee allowances wasn’t solely the decision of Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.
The brouhaha surrounding the cancellation arose again after leader and flag bearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama named former UCC Vice-Chancellor and former minister of education, Prof Jane Nana Opoku Agyemang as his running mate.
The New Patriotic Party went on a political offensive after the announcement refreshing the minds of Ghanaians on how the woman managed the Ministry of Education and some mishaps that happened under her leadership; core among them was the cancellation of the trainee allowances.
In a attempt to defend the running mate of the NDC, the communication officer of the party, Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi said at one of the party’s press briefings, that the decision to cancel the allowances was a government decision but not a sole decision made by Prof Jane Naana.
Responding to Sammy’s defense on News File, the ace journalist refused to separate the origin of the cancellation from the former minister. He called on the NDC to stop making excuses for their running mate.
“How are you trying to divorce the Ministerial from the Cabinet? That’s a sign of weakness, that you don’t really have a solid case to sell.
“Because look, the Minister or the Ministry prepares a memo on such key issues, memo goes to Cabinet, Cabinet discusses it and then whatever they do there.
“So for somebody to come around and say that was a Cabinet decision, not a Ministerial one, it is peddling a fallacy.”
