Jurgen Klopp is facing defensive crisis after makeshift centre-back Fabinho limped off with hanstring injury just 28 minutes into their Champions League group stage game against Midtjylland on Tuesday night.
The Brazilian was filling in at centre-back alongside Joe Gomez for Virgil van Dijk following his ACL injury that has ruled him out for the rest of the season but had to end his night prematurely when he pulled a hamstring while running towards his own goal in the 27th minute.
He was then replaced by 19-year-old Rhys Williams who played with Joe Gomez for the rest of the game.
Joel Matip is currently not match fit and that means Liverpool are only left with just one senior defender in their setup in the person of Joe Gomez.
Klopp after the game said: “Exactly the last thing we needed. I don’t know.. I know he felt a hamstring and that is not good.
“[He] didn’t feel it that much, [he] said he could have played on but no sprints anymore which doesnt help in that position obviously.
“We will see, a scan and we we’ll know more but of course it’s not good.”
Asked how long he thinks Fabinho will be out, he said: ” i don’t know. You know muscle injuries are like this -you get the result, but tomorrow morning probably. So we have to wait for that.”
