Liverpool on-loan goalkeeper at Besiktas, Loris Karius has confirmed he has terminated his loan contract with the Turkish Super Lig club after failing to repeatedly pay his wages.
The German goalkeeper is suing the Turkish Super Lig side, Besiktas for repeatedly failing to settle his wages during his loan spell at the club and his agent Florian Goll has confirmed they have not paid his client the full contracted amount between October 2019 and March 2020.
On his Instagram page on Monday, Karius posted explaining there have been ongoing talks between himself and Besiktas owners for months to resolve the issue but he is sorry to leave his teammates and supporters behind at the Vodafone Park in Istanbul.
His statement reads: “Hi everyone, today I terminated my contract with Besiktas.
“It’s a shame it comes to an end like this but you should know that I have tried everything to solve this situation without any problems. I was very patient for months telling the board over and over again. The same things happened already last year. Unfortunately they haven’t tried to solve this situational problem and even refused my suggestion to help by taking a pay cut.
“It’s important to me that you know I really enjoyed playing for this club a lot. Besiktas can be proud of having such passionate fans behind them always giving amazing support. You always supported me in good and bad times and I will always remember you in the best way!
“Also I want to say thank you to all my team-mates, coaching staff including all people working for the club. You welcomed me with arms wide open from day one.
“Thank you so much! Champion Besiktas”
The statement came with video of him since his arrival at the airport with fans cheering him and highlights of himself in action for the Turkish side.
Karius will return to Liverpool after being sent out on loan in 2018 after a poor performance in the Champions League which led to their 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid.
The German goalkeeper is far from getting a first team spot in Liverpool after they signed Alisson from Roma as first choice keeper with Adrian as back up.
His contract at Anfield runs through 2022.
