Luis Suares is set to join Atletico Madrid from Barcelona after both clubs came to an agreement on a deal worth £5.5million.
The 33-year-old Uruguayan had one more year on his contract he signed with Barcelona in 2016 but last month upon the arrival of new manager Ronald Koeman, Suarez was told he was not parr of his plans.
On the club’s official website is a statement that reads: “FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have reached agreement for the transfer of the player Luis Suarez. The Madrid club will pay FC Barcelona 6m euros in variables.
“FC Barcelona would like to publicly express their gratitude to Luis Suarez for his commitment and dedication and wish him all the best for the future.
“On Thursday 24 September from 12:30pm CEST, there will be a farewell event for the player and following that a remote press conference. You can see all the day’s event surrounding the Uruguayan striker’s goodbye on Barca TV+, FC Barcelona’s official digital streaming platform.”
Since moving from Anfield in 2014 to the Camp Nou, Luis Suarez made 191 appearances for the Spanish giants scoring 147 goals.
Suarez won the La Liga and Copa del Rey four times each, the Supercopa de España twice, the UEFA Champions League in 2014/15 season, the FIFA Club World Cup and the Super Cup both in 2015 with Barcelona.
