Leader and flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Former President John Mahama has suspended his unannounced visits to registration centres across the country due to COVID-19 concerns.
The Ex-President made the announcement after his recent visits to some polling stations witnessed overcrowding and mauling by Ghanaians who were trying to catch a glimpse of him.
He called on government and the general public to intensify education on the Coronavirus pandemic and the safety protocols to help curb the spread.
“I have cut short my unannounced visit to some voter registration centres in Accra and Tema this afternoon. This is because of the very low awareness of the #COVID19 protocols including physical distancing and the wearing of masks. We have to step up public education on COVID-19 so that people can appreciate the risk reduction protocols,” the President wrote in a tweet.
Social distancing has become difficult to practise alongside the ongoing voter ID registration due to large crowds and the cluster system of the registration.
