Manchester City has recorded their third Coronavirus case in their camp as Ilkay Gundogan tests positive but their Premier League opening game at Monday night will still be played.

Ilkay Gundogan has tested positive for Coronavirus and will miss City’s opener against Wolves on Monday

The club in recent weeks had two of their players testing negative for Coronavirus. Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte were the victims of the virus and the duo were ruled out of their Premier League opener against Wolves.

Gundogan’s test result means he will miss Manchester City’s game against Wolves on Monday, while he will also miss the League Cup against Bournemouth on Thursday and their meeting with Leicester City on Sunday.

Riyad Mahrez was among the first two City players to have tested positive for Coronavirus ahead of the new season

The club said in a statement that Gundogan would now observe a period of quarantine in accordance with the UK’s government guidelines.

“Manchester City FC can confirm that Ilkay Gundogan has tested positive for Covid-19.

“Ilkay is now observing a 10-day period of self-isolation in accordance with Premier League and UK Government protocol on quarantine.

“Everyone at the club wishes Ilkay speedy recovery,” the club statement read on their official website.

The news means Pep Guardiola would now have to make changes to his first choice midfield with Phil Foden possibly filling in for Gundogan.

City will also be without Sergio Aguero as he recovers from an ankle injury. Laporte is also sidelined as he also recovers from Covid-19.
