Borussia Dortmund have been dealt with a huge blow as they confirmed that captain Marco Reus faces an indefinite period at the sidelines after failing to recover from a groin injury.
Reus has missed most part of the year with injuries suffering a setback in February but his comeback has delayed after aggravating his injury as the club return for pre season training on Thursday.
Throughout his career, the German international has endured alot of injuries and was only able to feautre 18 times in the 2019/20 season for Dortmund.
The club issued a statement explaining that the forward will face an indefinite period of time on the sideline due to tendon inflammation in his groin.
‘Borussia Dortmund will still have to be without Marco Reus. The captain has problems with tendon inflammation at the same injured groin muscle. He will be out for an indefinite period.
‘Reus has worked intensively in recent months and has taken steps forward. But he still has problems with some movements.’
The 31-year old forward has been unfortunate with injury stricken career that made his miss the 2014 world cup with Germany where they went on to win it.
The German Bundesliga returns for the 2020/21 season on September 18 and Dortmund faces a blow of missing their captain in preparation for the upcoming season.
They ended the recent season placing second to Bayern Munich who won their eighth successive title. Dortmund in 2012 won the Bundesliga under manager Jurgen Klopp before Marco Reus arrived at the club.
