Arsenal star Mesut Ozil contrary to what manager Mikel Arteta said has posted on his social media account he is “ready” ahead of their Premier League game with Liverpool on Wednesday.
Ozil who is Arsenal’s top earner at £350,000-a-week is yet to feature in any of their matches since the season’s restart on June 17 with his recent absence from the team supposedly to be as a result of back soreness.
But after it was confirmed on Tuesday by Arteta that the 31-year-old midfielder will be missing from the team yet again as the Gunners host league champions Liverpool, Mesut Ozil posted on Twitter a photo of himself training with caption “I AM READY.”
In his pre-match conference, Arteta when asked about Mesut Ozil said: ‘With Mesut the situation is still the same as it was.’
Ozil has not featured in any of Arsenal’s last five matchday squad even though he was in their squad for games against Brighton and Southampton, his services was not required on the field.
This appears that the relationship with the player and the club is somewhat tense with speculations about the club wanting to cut off the wages of the midfielder off the books.
Ozil this season has made 23 appearances for the Gunners in all competitions scoring just one goals and providing three assists.
His recent form appears to be a huge worry to the Gunners and despite everything, his agent has come out previously to say that his client will nevertheless see out the remainder of his contract with Arsenal.
Arteta has also insisted that despite the poor run of form of the German midfielder, there is still a place for the playmaker at the club.
‘There is always a place for a player of his quality,’ Arteta said earlier this month. ‘Players can adapt to different systems and we can adapt systems for different players.
‘Sometimes it is not just about what we want to play or how we want to play, sometimes we have to try to field the players that we have available in the right moments, in the right positions, to perform and be comfortable on the pitch to do what we require them to do.’
Mesut Ozil also revealed on Tuesday a new footwear venture posting on his Instagram page: ‘A new partnership has started… looking forward to working with @hideandjack and @albertofranceschi on a new range of sneakers.’
