Since the reopening of Senior High schools and tertiary institutions in Ghana confirmed cases of coronavirus have been rearing its ugly faces and western region is not an exception as 75 Senior High school students have tested positive for coronavirus.
Since the reopening for the final year students of senior high schools suspected cases have been recorded and so testing of blood samples have been taken to authenticate the status of the students. According to sources, out of 324 samples taken by 14 senior high schools, 75 tested positive to the virus.
The senior high schools in which 75 cases were recorded in Nsein SHS in Nzema East District, Shama SHS in the Shama District, Adiembra SHS in Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, Archbishop Porter SHS in Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, St. Augustine SHS in Bogoso, etc.
More samples are taken by the health authorities including contact tracing and so more cases are expected pending the determination of the final results. However, the districts in which the secondary schools reside keep having more confirmed cases as the days go by. For example, “Wassa Amenfi West recorded 387 suspected cases, 370 negatives, 442 positives with 102 pending out of 914 samples taken while Effia-Kwesimintsim also had 255 suspected cases, 431, negatives, 275 positives, while 151 cases are pending out of the 857 samples taken”, Dr, Mahama said.
