The director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Joyce Frimpong in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti region has been arrested for allegedly producing and selling fake hand sanitizers.
She was arrested last Friday, 3 April 2020 by the police and some other national security apparatus at her residence at Jacobu community. A search was conducted at her residence by the police and quantities of plain filled plastic bottles with an inscription ‘Adom Hand Sanitizer’ were found.
Clearly it meant that they are already in sale whose prices range from GHC2 to GHC10 depending on the size. According to sources some police officers had bought her product but later saw that it was fake and that warranted her arrest.
Because of the spread of coronavirus it has become necessary to use sanitizers and the demand for it has risen beyond thinking in Ghana. Some people are taking undue advantage to extort Ghanaians and as such police and the government are seriously preaching against it.
The matter is still under investigations even though the suspect was granted bail. As part of investigations samples of the hand sanitizers would be sent to Foods and Drugs Authority (FDA) for further investigations.
