Not long ago Malian President Ibrahim Bubakar Keita was overthrown and who later resigned after which ECOWAS representatives intervened to restore calm and civilian rule after placing sanctions on Mali. Now Mali’s transitional President Bah Ndaw who was appointed by the coup leader Col Assimi Goita last Friday, 25th September 2020 who agreed to follow the democratic process. The transitional President Bah Ndaw has also appointed a new Prime minister Moctar Ouane last Sunday 27th September 2020.

Mali was made aware by the ECOWAS last Friday that if they had not appointed a civilian prime minister the embargo or sanctions placed on the country will not be lifted.

Moctar Ouane had been a Malian foreign minister before from 2004 to 2011 and was a Malian representative to the United Nations(UN) from 1995 to 2002 and subsequently became the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) diplomatic adviser.
