Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives resumed worked today as they called off the strike pending negotiations. On the negotiation, Dr Bernard Okoe Boye, Deputy Minister of Health says that National Labour Commission has given the ministry up to 28th October 2020 to bring to finality amicably the negotiations between his Ministry and the GRNMA with documentary proof.
“We are happy that they called off the strike and are ready to come to the negotiation table. The Labour Commission has given us up to October 28, 2020, about a month from now to make sure that we get a document that will be acceptable for all of us”, Dr Bernard Okoe Boye said on last Wednesday, 23rd September 2020.
He reiterated the fact that he would make sure that both parties are satisfied before any commitment is made by his Ministry. This means that any commitment that may seek to undermine the interest of the Ministry of Health will not be made at the end of the day.
“There are conditions of service that have expiry dates. It came to a time we had to do renegotiations on some of them. Some of the allowances are already being taken care of. We are looking at new proposals as well. The government does not want to accept a proposal only to come out and prove difficult. We are considering its sustainability. If you are a prudent manager, you need to quantify what is being requested.”
