Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah as urged Ghanaians to rubbish rumours that COVID-19 donations from China and USA have been infected.
Both China and the USA have donated thousands of test kits to Ghana to assist the country in her fight against novel coronavirus despite some hospitals in the USA complaining of shortages of test kits in the country.
Founder of Alibaba, Jack Ma also made donations of Personal Protective Equipment to African countries including Ghana.
The philanthropic gesture from the foreign donors especially China and USA have raised a lot of concerns in Ghana with most people believing that the equipment may be infected.
But during an interview on Krokroko on Peace FM, the minister disclosed that “The country has taken every donation received through proper scrutiny with the aid of FDA and Ghana Standards Authority to ensure that we are comfortable with them before we distribute to the health facilities.”
Some countries who purchased test kits or received donations from China have returned the items because of suspicions over the safety of the equipment.
Hon Oppong Nkrumah added that “so far we have not experienced anything of that sort from the donation received but we will also return the products if we detect anything uncomfortable with the products”
