Popular pollster, Ben Ephson is predicting that the Akuffo-Addo led New Patriotic Party’s re-election bid can witness a 400,000 vote reduction if the ruling party decides to handpick parliamentary candidates for the 2020 polls.

The New Patriotic Party is yet to elect a chunk of its parliamentary candidates due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The pandemic has made it difficult for the party to fix a date and plan for the elections.

Mr. Ben Ephson who spoke on 3FM’s Sunrise Morning Show said that any attempt by the NPP to select it’s parliamentary candidates without legitimate elections will result into voter apathy.

He further alleged that the party has served notice that it will handpick candidates in view of the Coronavirus although the General secretary of the party said they are yet to decide. He speculated that the move is being used by the party to protect some of its sitting Mps.

“They (NPP) have made the attempt to protect some sitting MPs,” Ben Ephson said.

“That idea, even before COVID-19, surfaced they had been trying to protect some sitting MPs and trying to disqualify others.

“There were statements that in view of COVID-19 they could decide to hand-pick parliamentary candidates for the various constituencies. If they did Nana Akufo-Addo could go into the 2020 elections minus at least 400,000 votes.

“That is if they decide to avoid elections of their primaries,” he added.
