Reports according to PLATFORM TIMES have indicated that management of Nigeria’s Former President Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta has asked some workers of the facility to go home until further notice due to the economic effects of COVID-19 on the facility.

According to the media outlet, the management announced the news to the workers on Friday in a letter signed by the Head of Human Resources, Administration and Procurement, Olanike Ogunleye.

The Head of Human resource, in the letter,  said the sacking is “temporary.” He explained that keeping the workers on has become difficult for management due to the adverse effects of the virus not the organization. He said the affected workers will be recalled when the situations stabilize.

The letter reads:

“As you are aware, the current COVID-19 pandemic has had a toll on all our business significantly. This has resulted to making some difficult  decisions.

“Due to this situation, we regret to inform you that your employment will be put on hold till further notice.

” The temporary cessation is from 31st, May , 2020 and until business picks up you are recalled back to work, please note that you are not eligible for any payment during this period of cessation.

“You are to hand over all company properties in your possession to the human resource department, who shall do a confirmation of the exit clearance process before your final entitlements (if any) would be paid.

“On behalf of the management, we thank you for the services you have rendered in the past”.

Some of the workers at the library however lamented about the way the company handled payment of salaries. They accused the organization of paying low wages and owing workers salaries up to months.
