One female was confirmed dead, several others people were injured as a tanker rammed into a commercial bus on the Otedola Bridge along the Lagos Ibadan-Expressway in the early hours of May 21.
The accident happened at 9:30 am. Motorists were stranded for several hours before they were diverted through alternative routes.
An infant was among the injured in the accident that killed an unidentified woman. The tanker, carrying petrol rammed into a Volkswagen car and Mazda bus according to reports.
An eye witness attributed the cause of the accident to overspeeding and break failure on the part of the petrol tanker. The Director-General of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu said the accident scene was cordoned off in other to evacuate the wreckage.
“Two adult males and a child were severely injured by the impact and were attended to by the Agency’s officials, before being taken to trauma center for further treatment,” Dr. Femi said.
“Unfortunately, one yet to be identified adult female lost her life at the scene and her remains have been transported to the mortuary.”
He further mentioned that the vehicles have been removed from the road and investigation into the cause of the accident have commenced.
