Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has been left out of the Gunners squad for the 2020/21 Europa League.
The 31-year-old German midfielder has not played for Arsenal since March with his future at the club still in doubt as Mikel Arteta said it will be difficult for Ozil to break back into the squad.
Ozil who is the highest paid player in Arsenal’s history has been part of Mikel Arteta’s team since he took over from Unai Emery until after lockdown where he has not featured till date.
He has been left out from the squad for the Europa League alongside centre back Sokratis, who was expected to leave the Emirates this summer, and William Saliba who is yet to make his debut for the team since joining from Saint Etienne.
Recently when asked why the German midfielder has not been included in Arsenal’s squad, Mikel Arteta said: “The team is evolving, you can see the level they are achieving.
“This is where at the moment we want to evolve more and play better and compete better. We need to keep maintaining that.
“I’m really happy with the performance here, how difficult they’re making things for the coaching staff to select the squad.”
Arsenal’s Europa League begins on 22 October when they face Group B rival Rapid Vienna in Austria before they play Dundalk and Molde.
