Arsenal midfielders Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny will not join the squad to travel to the Elland Road ahead of their Premier League clash with Leeds on Sunday.
Partey was substituted at halftime during Arsenal’s 3-0 defeat at home to Aston Villa earlier this month. The Gunners confirmed that Partey had picked a thigh injury and had to undergo a scan to confirm the extent of the injury.
Partey has not recovered sufficiently over the international break and will not be included in the sqaud on Sunday, Arteta confirmed.
“He picked up an injury very early in the game [against Aston Villa], he tried to carry on and he wanted to play the second half and we knew it was a significant injury. He has done really well, he is working very hard and he wants to be available. Hopefully we can get him back soon but its in an area where we have to be careful and a bit protective with the player.”
Mohamed Elneny on the other hand tested positive for Coronavirus while on international duty with Egypt. His test result came prior to Egypt’s second leg of the AFCON qualifier in Togo and had to return to Cairo to self isolate.
The Egyptian on Thursday tested positive again for the virus and despite testing positive, he has been given clearance to return to the UK alongside compatriot Mohamed Salah on Friday –after which both will continue self isolation.
